February Update, First Quarter Goals, Writing Prompts and More!

February is finally upon us! The first major hurdling of 2023 has been passed and it is (hopefully) nothing but up for the rest of the year. What a year it has been with doctors, ER trips, sickness, and lots of scary moments for my family. My hope is that the dawning of this new month on this new year will open up the possibilities for a much better theoretical second start.

This month's going to be focused on improving my personal life which during book production has taken a bit of a dive as I stick nose in computer screen and ignore all other things to get words on pages. As well as working out the last bits of details and scheduling for my upcoming comic Angelus.

Bookish News

Hollows development is coming along swimmingly! Another edit is in the pocket, and it is out for its fourth round of beta/critiques. I've got three individuals combing it over checking for mistakes, inconsistencies, and issues. Giving the unfortunate last professional edit attempt I am also asking my beta's to assess if the editor was correct and I need to send it off to a developmental editor, if it needs a less harsh hand with a second professional edit, or if its pretty much good to go. Depending on these answers I may end up having to push the books publish off to the second quarter April-June, instead of the first quarter January-March as I'd intended. While I'd still like to publish in March, if the book needs a developmental edit that timeframe is a bit unrealistic. It will be a bit before we know for sure but as soon as news comes our way I'll be sure to let you all know.

Comic News

Angelus development is coming along swimmingly, with three chapters planned for release over the first season in full color. Starting in April the first season — which I'm calling the Pilot season — will introduce us to the main duo, Hope St. George and Orion Angelus, the head team within the Angelus Foundation, and provide a nice entryway for anyone who would like to dip their toes into the world of Angelus. This first season will test the waters on the project and should it do well, more seasons will be planned in the future. As an idea of how well I'd like it to do, the absolute minimum to continue onto a second season (as full colored pages are very time consuming) would be 100 followers for the comic on Tapas. If we can reach that goal before the last page of season one then I'll definitely begin developing season two.

First Quarter Goals

First quarter goals are a pretty easy thing to quantify right now given that the first month of the year was pretty much lost so we only have to plan for two months. While publishing Hollows in the first quarter is looking pretty unlikely, many more things are happening behind the scenes to get the book ready for that publish.

For the most part the quarterly goals for this part of the year include preparing Hollows for its release, which means promotional material, figuring out the platforms it'll be published on, setting up my mailing list (which I still haven't quiet finished) and a few other small odds and ends. Finishing up the first chapter of Angelus so that that isn't on my plate for its release, and getting together some nice goodies for anyone who would like to support Angelus. I'd like to make stickers I think but we are still at the point of wishful thinking. It also includes some self care goals, such as getting in better shape myself and some other personal goals to help with mental health.

Writing Prompts

Write a scene where two people meet and its love at first sight! (500 word max)

Roses are red, violets are blue, my heart it sings for you! Write a poem about finding love.

Someone has a secret admirer, they come home to find a huge vase of roses sitting on their front porch with a hand written note. It fills them with warmth but they recognize the handwriting. Who is it? What does it say? What happens next?

"There isn't much time hurry!" he yells at you. The monsters are closing in, shadows in the darkness. You look at his hand, outstretched ready to hoist you up towards the rooftops. This was not the way you'd thought a Valentines Day date would be going. (What next?)

This month has a lot in store for it! Wishing a great month for you!
